The Young Women Leadership Program 2026 Cape Town South Africa
The Young Women’s Leadership Programme (YWLP) is a programme of GLUNN — the Grail Link to the United Nations Network — endorsed by The Grail International.
It creates a safe space where young women from across the Grail world come together to reflect on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the five Grail Priorities, and to build a network capable of leading sustainable, transformative change in their own communities.
Leadership is in the name of the programme, but we do not begin by defining it. Understanding emerges from the participants themselves as they reflect on their own styles, their own questions, and what needs to change for them to lead well. Speakers, texts, activities and shared reflection shape what leadership comes to mean.
Alongside it runs a second lens: sacred activism. Whatever our religion or spiritual path, through our connection with Mother Earth and the Divine we are called to work for the transformation of the world. It asks each participant a direct question — where am I being called to put my body in the face of injustice?
The methodology draws on popular feminist education, bringing lived experience and theory together. The programme does not end when the gathering does. Through leadership development, every participant creates and develops a project in her own community when she returns home. What is learned and built during the two weeks is carried back and put into action. The task begins the day the programme begins.
How it has grown
The YWLP grew out of a programme at the Cornwall Grail Center in the United States in 2015, which became the seed of an international one. In 2018 — Maputo, Mozambique. The first international programme, held in July, brought together 24 young women… In 2020/2021 — Virtual, planned for Mexico. The second programme virtually gathered 46 young Women. 2023 — Golegã, Portugal. The third programme; 28 participants.
2026 — Kleinmond, Cape Town, South Africa. The fourth programme brings 23 young women together in the Western Cape. Its theme is borrowed from the Protea, South Africa’s national flower: resilience and courage, diversity, healing, and transformation and openness.
Across four programmes, 121 young women have taken part, from every region where the Grail is present.

Grail "Communities with a Heart" Celebrates Fifth Year at Radboud University
The Grail proudly celebrated the fifth edition of its transformative summer program, International Grail: Communities with a Heart, held at Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Over two inspiring weeks, women from across the globe gathered to deepen their leadership, strengthen their communities, and explore new pathways for creating a more compassionate, just, and sustainable world. Now in its fifth year, the program continues to bring together an international and intergenerational community of women united by a shared commitment to personal transformation and collective action. Through meaningful dialogue, experiential learning, and reflective practice, participants explored how authentic leadership begins with self-awareness and expands outward to create lasting change within families, organizations, and communities.
Inspired by the groundbreaking work of Grail member and Radboud University Professor Christa Anbeek, the curriculum is grounded in the Eight Cornerstones, a framework for cultivating communities rooted in compassion, courage, resilience, and hope. Participants engaged with themes on mindfulness, diversity, storytelling, critical consciousness, embodied wisdom, ecological awareness, spirituality, and collaborative leadership. A hallmark of the program is its emphasis on creating a courageous learning community where participants share their lived experiences across cultures, generations, and professions. These conversations foster meaningful relationships that continue long after the summer program concludes, creating a global network of women dedicated to serving their communities with empathy and purpose.
The faculty reflected the international spirit of The Grail, with educators from the Netherlands, South Africa, Brazil, Ecuador, and the United States facilitating a
dynamic exchange of perspectives. Continuing the program’s evolving model of leadership development, alumni once again assumed significant teaching and facilitation roles during the second week, demonstrating the strength of a growing community that empowers participants to become future mentors and leaders. For many returning participants, this year’s gathering was also a homecoming. Relationships built over previous years were renewed while new voices were welcomed into the community, reinforcing the program’s vision that sustainable social change begins by nurturing authentic human connection.
Communities with a Heart is a testament to the power of global collaboration, lifelong learning, and the belief that communities flourish when people lead with compassion, curiosity, and hope. Together, participants leave Radboud University equipped not only with new knowledge but with renewed inspiration to return home and create positive change in their own communities, continuing to build a world with more heart.

A Wonderful Grail International General Assembly!
With great joy delegates from 18 countries gathered in person for the first time since 2017 for the Grail International General Assembly (IGA) 2026 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Our numbers included the Grail International Leadership Team (ILT), country delegates, international network coordinators and administrative team members. In addition, many Brazilian Grail members served as the host committee and back stage team. To them we owe immense gratitude! It was a great disappointment that our delegates from Angola were not with us as they were unable to secure visas. We also missed our Grail sisters from Canada and Germany this year who were unable to make the journey.
Over two weeks participants heard reports from project coordinators and teams. We received inspiring and challenging input from speakers on migration and trafficking, the global situation facing women, feminist theology, and a solidarity economy.
The Assembly discussed and affirmed proposals on Grail international Centers, the Maternal and Child Nutrition Project; expanding the Ecosofia project; Growing in the Grail in the African Region; our Christian roots; exploring the issue of decoloniality and advancing dialogue regarding diverse life choices; the need for collaboration across the Americas and other important issues. Every five years the Assembly reviews Grail international priorities for program, study, and action. The Assembly decided to continue with three priorities and added two more that reflect the signs of times discerned by participants. Over the next five years, the following priorities will be a focus of planning and action:
- Faith and Inter-spirituality
- Migrants and Refugees
- Just Transition and Biodiversity
- Justice and a Culture of Peace
- Women’s Rights and Diversities.
IGA 2026 was a time of connection, celebration and deep sharing. It is a privilege to be in relationship with women of so many backgrounds and cultures and to share personally not only about our country situations but also our hopes for the Grail as a transformative force in the promotion of peace, care for the planet and the empowerment of women.
