Mozambique
The Grail was introduced to Mozambique in the 1990’s by members of the Grail in Portugal. Several women participated in international Grail gatherings and Formation programs that deepened our interest and connections. In 1995, we were formally recognised at the Grail International Council Meeting in Sydney, Australia. We have grown steadily, now involving more than 50 women in the community. We operate a Grail Center in Maputo where we host meetings, discussion and programs as well as promote environmental sustainability values and strategies.

- Program: Pause for Prayer and Silence.

- Create a space for encounter between Life and the Word of God.
- Provide a break and silence time from our everyday life.
- Project: Girls Empowerment Initiative together with Global Girls Leading Our World (G.L.O.W)
Overview: This out-of-school program mentors girls in vulnerable communities to advocate for themselves and make their communities stronger. It is designed to equip girls with the skills and resources they need to thrive. When girls are strong, healthy, and educated, they change their communities and transform societies. We mentor and educate girls through three key initiatives:- Support girls in building self-advocacy skills, emotional wellbeing, educational engagement and community engagement and impact.
- Work to ensure girls have the information they need to stay healthy and maintain healthy relationships and make positive choices for their future.
- Prepare girls for self-determined futures by addressing barriers girls face in accessing formal economic opportunities.
- Project: “Avante Super Rapariga”
Overview: This group was created by girls, for girls, from the urban and peri urban areas of Maputo City, with support of the Grail, with the aim of empowering themselves during the period of the COVID 19 pandemic and social distance. Meetings and discussions virtually focus on topics of mental health, quality education, and climate change.
